The Type of Rearing Attitudes of Fathers with Preschool Children: Q Methodological Approach

Abstract
It is expected that fathers¡¯ active rearing involvement and attitude could be linked to children¡¯s exciting experience and lower mothers¡¯ rearing stress. The purpose of this study is to provide basic information about rearing attitude that promote positive development among preschoolers. Q-methodology was used to identify the subjective cognition types and characteristics of rearing attitudes of fathers with preschool children. the data were collected by applying 32 Q statements to 34 subjects. The data were examined by the QUANL PC program. The child-rearing attitudes of fathers with preschool children were classified into ¡®Generous and receptive¡¯, ¡®Receptive and projective¡¯, ¡®Emotional and receptive¡¯. The commonality among the three types were reluctant to express their child¡¯s disadvantages to others and dislike visiting by children¡¯s friends. In sum, such a case of fathers with preschool children, they thought that they have responsibility for their child¡¯s development as parent, and want to be a good father as his role. Therefore, fathers should be understood and coordinated with the consideration of these characteristics.
