The Type of Rearing Attitudes of Fathers with Preschool Children: Q Methodological Approach

|
It is expected that fathers’ active rearing involvement and attitude could be linked to children’s exciting experience and lower mothers’ rearing stress. The purpose of this study is to provide basic information about rearing attitude that promote positive development among preschoolers. Q-methodology was used to identify the subjective cognition types and characteristics of rearing attitudes of fathers with preschool children. the data were collected by applying 32 Q statements to 34 subjects. The data were examined by the QUANL PC program. The child-rearing attitudes of fathers with preschool children were classified into ‘Generous and receptive’, ‘Receptive and projective’, ‘Emotional and receptive’. The commonality among the three types were reluctant to express their child’s disadvantages to others and dislike visiting by children’s friends. In sum, such a case of fathers with preschool children, they thought that they have responsibility for their child’s development as parent, and want to be a good father as his role. Therefore, fathers should be understood and coordinated with the consideration of these characteristics.
